What’s in a name?
Our organization’s name draws inspiration from one of the most significant marvels of the natural world and its creator: the beaver dam.
Beavers are well known for their engineering prowess and are considered to be second only to humans in their ability to impact their environment. This impact begins with the construction of a dam, an amalgamation of plant material built to alter the flow of a stream. Once a dam has been formed, the diverted flow of water floods the surrounding area creating a lake and the perfect habitat for beavers to further develop. Now able to easily navigate this newly formed wetland area beavers are free to dig canals, build lodging, and even adjust their dams when they detect changes in upstream water flow! The dam is the cornerstone of the widespread impact to come, and not just to the immediate vicinity of their newly formed home...
